Musical comedian Bill Bailey is to return to the West End this autumn to present his latest stand-up show Dandelion Mind at the Wyndham’s theatre.
The new show, which has already toured Australia and New Zealand, will play in the West End from 2 November until 7 December.
The former Never Mind The Buzzcocks team captain, famed for his musical ability, has based this new show loosely around the theme of doubt, with tales of being trapped by the Icelandic ash cloud giving way to rants about celebrity, TV, creationism and Michael Winner. There will also, of course, be the odd musical interlude, taking in Iranian hip hop, folk-bouzouki and a French disco re-working of Gary Numan’s Cars.
Bailey was last seen in the West End in the winter of 2008/9, when he performed Tinselworm at the Gielgud theatre. He previously performed stand-up show Part Troll at the Wyndham’s theatre in 2004. Most recently Bailey has been blending comedy with musical education in his highly popular live show Bill Bailey’s Remarkable Guide To The Orchestra.
In addition to his six years as a team captain on Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Bailey has also acted in TV shows Black Books, Spaced, Jonathan Creek and Skins.
Bailey’s month-long run at the Wyndham’s follows the closure of long-running puppet musical Avenue Q. The irreverent tale of the inhabitants of a less than salubrious street closes on 30 October.
