Mel Brooks’ mirthful musical comedy is coming alive like you’ve never seen it before this Autumn, with the brilliant director/choreographer Susan Stroman bringing Young Frankenstein to the Garrick Theatre.
And with an all-star cast including Hadley Fraser, Ross Noble, Lesley Joseph and Summer Strallen, and the brilliant Broadway legends of Stroman and Brooks masterminding what promises to be a side-splitting show, we couldn’t be more excited for what promises to be a monstrously fun production.
We were lucky enough to attend an early sneak preview of the show’s rehearsals, where we spoke to Susan about the vision behind the staging. Check out the video above.
Young Frankenstein, the wickedly inspired re-imagining of the Mary Shelley classic, tells the story of the Grandson of the infamous Victor Frankenstein, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (pronounced ‘Fronk-en-steen’), who inherits a castle in Transylvania leading him to fulfill his grandfather’s legacy by bringing a corpse back to life.
With help and hindrance from hunchback henchman Igor, buxom assistant Inga and needy fiancée Elizabeth, his experiment yields madcap success and monstrous consequences.
