Matilda The Musical is part of Olivier Awards folklore. When it dominated the Olivier Awards with MasterCard ceremony in 2012 it set not just one, but two records.
In collecting seven separate awards during the course of the evening, including Best New Musical, it broke the record for the most number of awards won by a single show at one Olivier Awards ceremony. And in picking up the Best Actress in a Musical Award for its young quartet – Sophia Kiely, Eleanor Worthington Cox, Kerry Ingram and Cleo Demetriou – it set a new record for the youngest Olivier Award winners; Worthington Cox and Demetriou were both just 10-years-old!
With music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and an adaptation of Roald Dahl’s children’s novel by Dennis Kelly, Matilda has been one of London’s favourite shows since it opened at the Cambridge Theatre in 2011.
The show now has its sights set on the Magic Radio Audience Award. Cast member Michael Begley explains why in the video above.
Matilda The Musical is booking at the Cambridge Theatre to 18 December. You can book tickets through us here.
