Tess Of The D’Urbervilles actress Gemma Arterton and former Robin Hood star Harry Lloyd have joined the previously announced Rupert Friend and Laurence Olivier Award-winner Tamsin Greig in the cast of The Little Dog Laughed.
The comedy, which won a Tony Award when it premiered on Broadway, is the tale of a Hollywood star (Friend) who wants to come out of the closet but is advised against it by his agent (Greig), and the love triangle he finds himself in when he falls for a rent boy (Lloyd) who already has a girlfriend (Arterton).
British TV audiences will know Arterton best for her performance in the title role of the BBC adaptation of Tess Of The D’Urbervilles, while film fans will know the RADA-trained actress from Bond film Quantum Of Solace, Richard Curtis comedy The Boat That Rocked and the recent remake of St Trinian’s. She has previously appeared on the London stage at Shakespeare’s Globe, where she played Rosaline in the 2007 production of Love’s Labour’s Lost.
Lloyd, who played Will Scarlett in two series of the BBC’s Saturday evening family drama Robin Hood, was seen in the West End earlier this year starring opposite Ken Stott, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio and Hayley Atwell in A View From The Bridge.
The Little Dog Laughed opens at the Garrick theatre in January 2010, following autumn performances of The Mysteries – Yiimimangaliso and Arturo Brachetti – Change.
