Another Country transfers to Trafalgar

Published 4 February 2014

Jeremy Herrin’s acclaimed production of Another Country will transfer to the Trafalgar Studios next month following a successful run at the Chichester Festival Theatre in 2013.

Julian Mitchell’s witty play, which is set in an English public school during a 1930s summer, will play in the Trafalgar Studio 1 from 26 March to 21 June.

The production charts the story of two rebellious students, whose reaction to a school scandal shakes the institution to its foundations and causes a massive impact on their lives, their friends and the future of the country.

Another Country opened at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre in September 2013. It was described by The Telegraph’s Charles Spencer as “a gripping, detailed production that does equal justice to the play’s humour and its gathering sense of cruelty and darkness.”

Directed by the Artistic Director of Headlong Theatre, the cast includes Julian Wadham, Will Attenborough, Cai Brigden, Rob Callender, Mark Donald, Dario Coates, Bill Milner, James Parris and Mark Quartley.

The original Olivier Award-winning play premiered at the Greenwich Theatre in 1981 before transferring to the West End. During its continued run at the Queen’s Theatre, actors including Rupert Everett, Kenneth Branagh, Colin Firth and Daniel Day-Lewis were among the cast.

Another Country will open at the Trafalgar Studio 1 following the current run of another acclaimed transfer, the Almeida Theatre’s hit production of Ghosts, which plays until 22 March.
