Anne Reid joins Dromgoole’s A Woman Of No Importance

The multi award-nominated Anne Reid will return to the London stage to join Eve Best in Dominic Dromgoole’s first production of a year-long Oscar Wilde celebration at the Vaudeville Theatre.

Reid, perhaps best known for her BAFTA-nominated role as Celia Dawson in Last Tango In Halifax (BBC) and an Olivier Award-nominated star turn in Epitaph For George Dillon in 2006, will star as Lady Hunstanton, the host of the dinner party at which events take place, opposite Best as Mrs Arbuthnot.

Dominic Dromgoole, director, said: “It will be a delight to welcome Anne back to the London stage, since she has become an even more loved star with Last Tango In Halifax.”

“She has long been one of my favourite actresses, and her performance in Peter Gill’s beautiful The York Realist was one of my greatest experiences in the theatre. It will also be nice to celebrate her recent successes as a cabaret performer by cutting her loose with a song or two from the Victorian songbook”.

Reid’s recent theatre credits also include Fracked! (Chichester Festival Theatre), Hedda Gabler (Old Vic), Dimetos (Donmar Warehouse), Happy Now? (National Theatre) and Into The Woods (Royal Opera House).

A Woman Of No Importance will play at the Vaudeville Theatre from 6 October to 30 December 2017.

As part of its year-long celebration of Oscar Wilde at the West End venue, director Dromgoole’s new company Classic Spring will go on to stage Lady Windermere’s Fan, An Ideal Husband and The Importance Of Being Earnest.
