Angelina pirouettes at Peacock

First Published 17 April 2008, Last Updated 17 April 2008

If you missed the stage debut of Angelina Ballerina at the New Wimbledon last year, there is another chance to catch the musical mouse in London this spring as English National Ballet brings its premiere production of children’s ballet Angelina’s Star Performance to the Peacock from 2-13 April.

The character of Angelina Ballerina was created by Katharine Holabird and illustrated by Helen Craig for a series of children’s books which follow the adventures of this little mouse who dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. The stories were then made into an animated television series for children.

English National Ballet’s new ballet, which has been touring the UK since its premiere at the New Wimbledon in September 2007, finally makes Angelina’s dreams come true as she shows off her pirouettes and jetés for real in this live stage production. The story, written by Paul Larson and Laura Beaumont, follows Angelina as she prepares to put on her very own performance of The Sleeping Beauty for the King and Queen in their palace – but can she pull it off? Antony Dawson’s choreography is set to the music of Tchaikovsky’s The Sleeping Beauty and performed by eight dancers from English National Ballet.

Angelina’s Star Performance is suitable for children aged three and over.CB
