Angela Griffin, best known for TV performances in Coronation Street and Mount Pleasant, has joined the cast of new comedy Breeders.
The latest play from Ben Ockrent, which plays at the St James Theatre from 3 September to 4 October, also stars the previously announced Tamzin Outhwaite, Nicholas Burns and Jemima Rooper.
Griffin, who was last on the London stage in hit comedy One Man, Two Guvnors, will play Caroline, who wants to start a family with her wife Andrea (Outhwaite). In an attempt to ensure that any child shares both their DNA, the couple need the help of Andrea’s brother Jimmy.
The comedy, which is directed by Tamara Harvey, is the first production in the One Stage season at the St James Theatre. The season, which also includes Uncle Vanya, the latest Chekhov adaptation by young playwright Anya Reiss, and Blanche McIntyre directing Emlyn Williams’ Accolade, is supported by theatrical charity Stage One and aims to give support and experience to emerging commercial theatre producers.
