The casting has been confirmed for the Donmar Warehouse’s new production of Arthur Miller’s American fable, The Man Who Had All The Luck, which opens on 5 March.
The play stars Andrew Buchan as David Beeves, a man whose life is bathed in delicious good fortune while all around him are stalked by disaster. Buchan’s previous theatre credits include Posh (Royal Court), Ship Of Fools (Theatre 503) and Romeo And Juliet (Royal Exchange Manchester). The cast also includes RSC stalwart Nigel Cooke, Shaun Dingwall, James Hayes, Mark Lewis Jones, Aidan Kelly, Gary Lilburn, Roy Sampson, Felix Scott, Michelle Terry and Sandra Voe.
The Man Who Had All The Luck is directed by Sean Holmes, who showcased his flair for Miller’s writing when he directed the Tricycle’s 2002 revival of The Price which later transferred to the Apollo. Holmes has also directed Moonlight and Magnolias (Tricycle), The Entertainer (Old Vic), The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Translations (National Theatre) Julius Caesar, A New Way To Please You (RSC), Cleansed, Home (Oxford Stage Company) and Incomplete And Random Acts Of Kindness (Royal Court).
The Man Who Had All The Luck originally opened on Broadway in 1944 and won the Theater Guild Award despite closing after six days. Arthur Miller was only 28 at the time of writing but went on to become widely recognised as one of the world’s leading dramatists. His major works include All My Sons (1947), Death Of A Salesman (1949), The Crucible (1953), A View From The Bridge (1955), After The Fall (1964), The Price 1968, The Last Yankee (1991) and Broken Glass (1994).
The Man Who Had All The Luck will open on 5 March (previewing from 28 February) and is scheduled to run until 5 April.
