An Inspector Calls tours the City Of London Police Museum

JB Priestley’s An Inspector Calls has returned to the West End as Stephen Daldry’s multi award-winning National Theatre production plays at the Playhouse Theatre.

A recipient of four Tony Awards and three Olivier awards since its inception in 1992, Daldry’s production of An Inspector Calls has received multitudinous acclaim from critics and audiences alike over the course of its performances, with this production marking the 70th anniversary of the first UK staging of the play, and the 25th anniversary of its first appearance at the National Theatre. It tells the story of Inspector Goole, who calls unexpectedly on the wealthy Birling family home, only for their peaceful family dinner party to be shattered by his investigation into the death of a young woman.

Liam Brennan, who plays the inspector in the show, and Sara Pink, from the City Of London, took us on a tour of the City Of London Police Museum. The City Of London Police Museum takes visitors on a unique journey, which includes the last hours of Catherine Eddowes, one of Jack the Ripper’s victims; bomb damage during the Blitz; being at the forefront of technology to counter terrorism and the current work against economic crime and cybercrime.

Watch our video to learn more about An Inspector Calls, and see a few fascinating artifacts preserved from policing of the past.

An Inspector Calls runs until 25 March at the Playhouse Theatre. Book tickets to this haunting thriller today.
