American Idiot extends Arts Theatre run

First Published 7 August 2015, Last Updated 7 August 2015

American Idiot may have planned a rather apt September end, but the Green Day-Inspired musical has proved so popular at London’s Arts Theatre that it has extended its run until 22 November.

The musical, which brings the story of three childhood friends to life with some of the punk rock band’s greatest hits including Wake Me Up When September Ends, was previously booking until 27 September.

Directed and choreographed by Racky Plews, the critically acclaimed hit follows the trio as they strive to find meaning in a post-9/11 world.

The production, which opened in July, sees a cast including former X Factor contestant Amelia Lily, Loserville’s Aaron Sidwell, Steve Rushton and Alexis Gerred belt out hit after Green Day hit in a 90-minute show that The Independent’s Paul Taylor says “Throbs with the energy of a rock gig”.

Talking about the extension, American Idiot’s producers said: “We have been overawed by the unbelievable response from audiences and are thrilled to be extending our stay at the Arts Theatre. We look forward to welcoming more members to join our Idiot Nation!”

While musical theatre fans now have until November to see the much-loved hit, those wanting to see American Idiot this month can take advantage of free kids’ tickets with our annual promotion Kids Week.
