Hit site-specific wedding drama I Do, a sell-out success when it was staged as part of the 2013 Almeida Festival, will return to the Hilton Hotel, Docklands this spring.
Created by specialists in site-sensitive theatre Dante Or Die, with a script by Susan Smith Blackburn Prize winner Chloe Moss, the drama, which takes audiences through a sextet of hotel rooms, runs from 26 February to 9 March.
Each of the six rooms holds different family and friends preparing themselves for a wedding. The audience, in six groups, encounters each occurrence in a different order, piecing the action and stories together as they go.
The ceremony begins in 10 minutes. The best man is practicing his speech, the bridesmaids are preparing the bride, Mum and Dad are meeting for the first time in years, Grandma is dressing her husband, the groom’s brother is seducing the maid of honour and the groom, well, he’s frozen…
Among the cast members for the theatrical nuptials are Juliet Bravo star and stage regular Anna Carteret and Dante Or Die’s Artistic Director Terry O’Donovan.
While I Do tells its sometimes funny, sometimes moving tale of wedding day shenanigans in Docklands, in Islington the Almeida hosts the Headlong production of George Orwell’s drama 1984.
