Italian magician, actor and quick-change artist Arturo Brachetti returns to the London stage this autumn in a new show written and directed by The Right Size’s Sean Foley.
Arturo Brachetti – Change, which opens at the Garrick theatre on 26 October (previews from 19 October), tells the story of a legendary artiste of the golden age of cabaret whose memories of his illustrious career come to life. During the course of the show Brachetti depicts over 100 characters, from James Bond to the Queen via Johnny Rotten, in a display of the time-honoured Italian art of quick-change.
Brachetti’s skill as a quick-change artist has previously been seen in the West End in his show Y at the Piccadilly theatre, which earned him a Laurence Olivier Award nomination for Most Promising Newcomer in 1983. He went on to appear as a magician in Tony Harrison’s Square Rounds at the National Theatre. His work includes television, film, music hall and numerous stage productions in his native Italy, including his signature show A Man With A Thousand Faces, which toured internationally.
Brachetti’s new show is written and directed by Sean Foley, one half of the comedy double act The Right Size, whose previous work includes Morecambe and Wise tribute show The Play What I Wrote at the Wyndham’s theatre – which subsequently transferred to Broadway – and Do You Come Here Often? at the Vaudeville theatre, both of which won Laurence Olivier Awards. The duo’s last show to be seen in London was Ducktastic! in 2005, which received a Best Entertainment nomination.
Arturo Brachetti – Change runs at the Garrick theatre following a limited run of The Mysteries – Yiimimangaliso, which plays from 11 September to 3 October, and is booking to 3 January 2010.
