Alex Gaumond and Laura Pitt-Pulford are to star in the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre revival of Seven Brides For Seven Brothers this summer.
They are joined at the leafy venue by Janie Dee, Sabrina Bartlett and Matthew Tennyson, who lead the cast of The Seagull, and Hiran Abeysekera and David Birrell, who will star in Peter Pan.
Running from 16 July to 29 August, Seven Brides will star former Olivier Award nominee Gaumond, who has just opened in English National Opera’s Sweeney Todd, as the woman-stealing Adam Pontipee.
Rising musical theatre star Pitt-Pulford, who appeared in the National Theatre production of The Light Princess and recently starred in The Sound Of Music in Leicester, plays Milly Brandon in the tale of siblings with a unique way of finding wives.
Prior to this year’s musical offering, Dee returns to Regent’s Park, where she previously appeared in Romeo And Juliet and Twelfth Night, to play Arkadina in Chekhov’s classic drama that runs from 19 June to 11 July. Before heading for a weather-reliant summer performance schedule, Dee will take to the Young Vic stage in Ah, Wilderness!.
Poldark star Bartlett will play Nina, with Evening Standard Best Newcomer Award winner Tennyson as Konstantin in the show.
Season opener Peter Pan (15 May to 14 June) will feature Behind The Beautiful Forevers’ Abeysekera in the title role of the boy who wouldn’t grow up.
Birrell returns to the venue, following performances in A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Ragtime, to play the dastardly Captain Hook. The production also features venue returns for Beverley Rudd (Into The Woods) as Smee and George Bukhari (Lord Of The Flies) as Nibs. Bad Education’s Kae Alexander makes her venue debut as Wendy.
Peter Pan reunites Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre’s Artistic Director Timothy Sheader with regular collaborator Liam Steel, whose hit production of Lord Of The Flies returns to the venue in September to complete the 2015 season.
