Matthew White’s successful dance musical Top Hat has extended its booking period, with the 1930s-set production releasing more than 180,000 new tickets today.
When the show opened in the West End earlier this year following a sell-out UK tour, it had originally been booking to January 2013. Theatregoers will now have the chance to see Top Hat at the Aldwych theatre until 28 September 2013.
Starring Strictly Come Dancing star Tom Chambers and the thrice Olivier Award-nominated actress Summer Strallen, Top Hat is adapted from the 1935 Academy Award-nominated film of the same name starring Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers.
Featuring iconic songs by Irving Berlin including Cheek To Cheek, Top Hat And Tails and Let’s Face The Music And Dance, Chambers leads the cast as Travers, an actor in town making his West End debut who meets the irresistible Tremont (Strallen). To win her heart he travels across Europe but must overcome a variety of comical obstacles on the way.
The leading pair is confirmed to appear in the musical until 10 November, with no announcements as yet as to casting following this date.
