Mark Addy joins Zoë Wanamaker and Simon Russell Beale in the cast of Shakespeare’s comedy Much Ado About Nothing at the National Theatre this December, playing Dogberry.
Though he began his career in theatre – with many seasons in regional theatre and previous appearances at the National in Wild Oats and The Shaughraun, among others – Addy is better known for his film and television credits which include The Full Monty, A Knight’s Tale, Around The World In 80 Days, The Thin Blue Line and US sitcom Still Standing. He returned to the stage last year, in the original cast of Jeremy Sams’s revival of Donkeys’ Years at the Comedy.
In Shakespeare’s much-loved comedy Much Ado About Nothing, Addy joins Wanamaker and Russell Beale as the love cynics and verbal sparring partners Beatrice and Benedick. The cast also includes Susannah Fielding (Hero), Oliver Ford Davies (Leonato), Andrew Woodall (Don John), John Burgess (Antonio), Daniel Hawksford (Claudio), Maggie McCarthy (Ursula), Trevor Peacock (Verges), Gary Pillai (Friar Francis), Daniel Poyser (Borachio) and Julian Wadham (Don Pedro).
The National’s Artistic Director Nicholas Hytner directs this new production, which opens in the Olivier on 18 December (previews from 10 December).
