Grab your picnic blanket (or umbrella, you can never depend on British weather), as the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre has announced more exciting events as part of its summer season.
During its season on Sunday evenings, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre will host one-off specials of comedy, music and film.
One of the comedy specials comes from comedian (and former doctor) Adam Kay. He will be bringing his critically acclaimed stand-up show; This is Going to Hurt (Secret Diaries of a Junior Doctor) to the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre on 2 June 2019. The show shares stories from his best-selling book, which documented the trials, tribulations and challenges of being an NHS junior doctor. Adam is currently performing this show for a limited run at the Garrick Theatre until 19 March 2019.
And if you’re looking for more comedy to fill up your summer plans, the improvisational group, Comedy Store Players will be taking audience suggestions and turning them into a show on 14 July. And Shappi Khorsandi makes her Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre debut on 15 September with her latest stand-up show.
If you’re looking for more of a musical night out, Nick Mulvey is playing a one-off solo show on the 18 August.
And watch the stars underneath the stars as the Luna Cinema screens Mary Poppins Returns (sing-a-long), A Star is Born (the Bradley Cooper / Lady GaGa version) and Monty Python’s Life of Brian.
This announcement follows Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre revealing which plays and musicals are being performed between 16 May – 21 September.
Kicking off the season will be Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize-winning play, Our Town, which will run between 16 May to 8 June.
This will be followed by Engelbert Humperdinck’s operatic version of Hansel And Gretel from 14-22 June.
Then the classic Shakespeare comedy, A Midsummer Night’s Dream enters the venue for a month between 28 June – 27 July.
And finally, the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre summer season concludes with the iconic Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Evita, which will be directed by Jamie Lloyd. This will run from 2 August – 21 September.
Priority booking for the Sunday events goes on sale at 11am on 1 March on the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre website. Public booking opens at 11am on 8 March.
