Carrie Hope Fletcher is to play Eponine in hit musical Les Misérables 12 years after making her debut in the production as the younger version of the same character.
The singer and songwriter will join the long-running show on 17 June, when Na-Young Jeon (Fantine), Rob Houchen (Marius), Anton Zetterholm (Enjolras) and Wendy Ferguson (Madame Thénardier) all join the company.
Fletcher’s Les Mis casting marks the adult West End debut for the actress who previously appeared as Jemima Potts in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Jane Banks in Mary Poppins. As a singer she supported former Les Misérables leading man Ramin Karimloo on his Road To Find Out tour.
Current leading men Geronimo Rauch and Tam Mutu, who play Jean Valjean and Javert, will continue in their roles, as will Cameron Blakely (Thénardier) and Samantha Dorsey (Cosette).
Les Misérables, which is now in its 28th London year, is the world’s longest running musical. Set in French revolutionary France it follows convict Jean Valjean as, released from his punishment, he tries to rebuild his life while constantly pursued by Inspector Javert whose black and white view of the world and the law makes circumstance and redemption redundant. Its songs, written by Claude-Michel Schönberg and Herbert Kretzmer, are among musical theatre’s best known and include Bring Him Home, One Day More, On My Own and I Dreamed A Dream.
