Hit ABBA musical Mamma Mia! has extended its lycra-tastic run in London’s theatres, having announced a new booking period at the Novello Theatre that takes it into October 2015.
By the end of that booking period the West End long-running show will be playing its 17th year in London’s Theatreland.
The tale of friendship, family and confused paternity set on a Greek Island and featuring the many hits of Swedish super group ABBA first opened at London’s Prince Edward Theatre in April 1999. It has since transferred to two other venues in the capital, spawned 38 other productions that have been seen by 54 million people and grossed more than $2 billion, been seen by more than 10% of the UK’s population and led to a hugely popular film adaptation that answered the question “Why hasn’t Pierce Brosnan had a musical career?”
The current London cast, performing as Dancing Queens day in day out and thanking ABBA for the music on a nightly basis, includes Dianne Pilkington, Kim Ismay, Rebecca Lock and Alice Stokoe.
