Benedict Cumberbatch fans now have the opportunity to leap on their PCs, laptops, mobiles or tablets and enter a lottery to secure £10 tickets to see the The Imitation Game star give his Hamlet at the Barbican this summer.
In partnership with Sky Arts, 60 tickets for each performance will be available for the wallet-friendly price via an online ballot that runs from today until 10:00 on 16 June. Theatre fans can apply for up to two tickets here.
Commenting on the £10 scheme, Phil Edgar-Jones, Director of Sky Arts, said: “We are delighted to be supporting this fantastic scheme with Sonia Friedman Productions. At Sky Arts we firmly believe that the Arts should be accessible to everyone – and it is wonderful that this hotly anticipated production of Hamlet will be open for so many more people to share.”
In addition to the 60 Sky Arts seats, 30 £10 seats will be sold on a first come first served basis as day seats on the day of each performance. Another 10 tickets per performance will be sold via charities to under-privileged young people.
In total 8,500 £10 tickets will be available for the eagerly awaited production that runs from 5 August to 31 October.
The Sherlock and The Hobbit star is joined in Shakespeare’s great tragedy by Game Of Thrones’ Ciarán Hinds as Claudius and London stage regulars Leo Bill (Horatio), Sian Brooke (Ophelia), Anastasia Hille (Gertrude), Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Laertes) and Jim Norton (Polonius).
The Bard’s great existential drama, which follows the plotting of a Danish prince whose father has been murdered by his uncle, will also be screened to more than 550 cinemas in the UK and worldwide on 15 October as part of NT Live.
