Audio Described Performances
Audio description is a live verbal commentary providing information on the visual elements of a production as it unfolds. It describes action that is essential to the understanding of the story, as well as other visual information such as the style and design, sets, costumes, facial expressions and visual jokes. Many shows also run touch tours before the performance to allow audiences to explore the set.
Captioned Performances
At a captioned performance the words are displayed on a screen (or screens), placed near the stage or in the set and can be seen at the same time as they are spoken or sung.
BSL Interpreted
An interpreter will stand in a visible position and interpret the spoken and heard elements of a performance.
Relaxed and Chilled Performances
Relaxed performances are adapted in a number of ways to reduce anxiety and create a supportive atmosphere, including adjusting light and sound levels, providing ‘chill-out’ areas and demonstrating an embracing attitude towards audience noise and movement in the auditorium. Relaxed performances could provide an opportunity for people with autism spectrum conditions, learning disabilities or other sensory and communication needs to access theatre in a relaxed environment. Chilled performances take a more casual approach to noise and movement in the auditorium, but the performance itself is unchanged. This performance is ideal for people who feel more at ease knowing they can go in and out of the auditorium during the show.
Socially Distanced
Socially distanced performances take place in auditoriums with reduced capacity. You and your party will be seated at a distance from other theatregoers. There may be further social distancing measures in other facilities in the theatre and you may be required to wear a mask, please check with the individual theatre to find out what measures they are taking.
